Internship readiness

Internship readiness means many things. A person who fits this description has three things. Professionalism, mannerism, and confidence. During the last two modules,  Year up has prepared my colleagues and I to practice these three main things . The staff has provided us pro skills classes , business communications, along with tech classes. They not only provide the space, but they also provide the tools in order for us to be successful. For me professionally, I plan to show all of these great qualities that I have learned from the previous modules. It is essential for me to be an example for the rest of my colleagues. I will show up on time, participate during class activities, and complete and turn in quality work. These are the main factors of what my success will be.

The unwanted

What does a job mean to most people? to be truthfully honest, it means nothing more than a unwanted position that they have to keep in order to receive a salary. It is nothing more than the money that the person may need. I have never held a real job title, but there are many titles that I have had to take on in the past that I absolutely hated. These titles include working as a volunteer for a 3rd grade class, volunteering at a home for elderly people, and babysitting for certain people. Even though all of these things were not things that I wanted to end up doing, they still helped shape me into the person I am today. All of these jobs include huge responsibilities, but the job that had the most was when I baby sat for other people’s children.  You have to keep your eyes open all of the time. Just you being there is a responsibility, because young children are very adamantine.

Fight the Hunger

How many times does the average person have to worry about food? Beings that the U.S is in a financial crisis, there are a lot of uncertainties about were the next meal may come from. It’s another thing for an adult to worry about necessary needs in life, including how to pay the bills, and shop for food, but the people that really have to carry that burden in the U.S are the children. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture,  17.5 million family’s lack the resources to provide the needed amount of food for everyone .  There is also an additional amount of 6.5 children who have experienced the disruption of eating normally, due to the lack of food. Most of this activity is shown in African American, and Latino communities, 1 in 3 children spend the day without eating a good meal. These results are shocking and epidemic. Although these things are happening, there are ways that it is being prevented. The nonprofit group Feeding America has over 200 food banks around the U.S, They are giving out meals on a daily bases. There are many ways that we as a society can contribute to this problem. We can easily give our time to the local food banks and volunteer, or we can go to our local soup kitchen and see the action up close. It is not going to change unless we take the initiative to strive for better. If you would like to know more, Here is a link to the article.

The other side game

Inspiration is something that can be viewed from many different angles. Some people get inspired by movies, books and other types of entertainment. But some people just get inspired by other environments and different cultures. Culture is the thing that defines one thing from another. Culture is important to me because it is the thing that mixes everybody together. No matter what a person is, everybody can relate back to that one element. Ever since I was little, I have been able to come together and congregate with different cultures. The main cultures that I have been able to relate to more, is Mexican culture and Filipino culture. Being that California has a huge Hispanic presence to it, the culture has been easy to grasp. Whether it is learning the language, or learning how to work and cook their food. They are the biggest culture that I have came across in my life time, so it is easy to have a good understanding to them. The other culture is Filipino culture, because just like Mexican culture, I have grew up with them throughout my life . I have also been able to relate more with their culture because it is very similar to mine. There are many things that we have in common.

The best place

Communities have been one of the most important elements of anybody’s wellbeing. When you think of a community, what comes to mind? Most people think of a close tight nit second family that has each other’s back through thick and thin. These are all examples of what a community is supposed to be. My community is the church. I have grown up in that community since birth. Unlike most communities, the church community is a place where anybody can join. Regardless of race, creed, or gender. Interaction is one of the best things to consider when coming to this community. When we all connect together, wonderful things start to happen. Everybody that is part of this community will benefit from everything. Because this community is so tight and close, sometimes problems will come up. Whether it is a disagreement or a misunderstanding. Just like any other group, people will not always get along. It is natural to not always agree on everything, confrontations might even come up. But at the end of the day everybody forgets about everything and gets along. Even though there are a lot of things that come up, I still enjoy it. I love the fact that people can come from all around and receive the love that they need. I also love how nobody will get judged. The church community is a great thing all around.

The Challenge

Though module one was a challenge in itself, but there are so many things that I Going am proud of. I came into Bc very confident and open minded. I already knew the basics of grammar, so I thought that it was no problem. I was always on time when I turned in my assignments, I didn’t give up, and I tried to learn something new every time I walked in the door. Although I thought that I knew everything that was going to be taught, I found out that it was going to be more of a challenge than I thought. As the weeks kept coming, there were more lessons that went into the depth of English, Such as fragments and incomplete sentences. As time went on, it was starting to become a little stressful. I then started to notice a turn in my work performance. All of a sudden I started to do my work at last minute. I was not bringing my A game. Everything that I did was not my best. The communication between me and my peers started to go downhill, and I started to become lazy all around. When I saw this happening, I them started to clean up my act and change. When our teacher assigned us out elevator pitches, I started to work on it immediately. When the competition came up, I worked hard and won. This showed me that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. I was finally proud of myself. I felt as if I accomplished something that I deserved. This attitude now follows me into module two, and I am looking forward to leaning more.

Were it all began

Often times you hear people give reference their neighborhoods as a sign of respect. People usually get their habits from the places and the environments that they grew up in, and it often shapes who they are as a person. For me, I grew up in Santa Cruz California. I was born and raised there. I guess you can say that I got my entire flavor from that city. Beings that Santa Cruz is a very diverse place, everybody sort of gets along. Everybody there is friendly, and knows everybody on a personal level. When you look at my character I am the exact same way. I realize that Santa Cruz had a bigger effect on me than I thought. All of the thing that surrounded me as a child were positive, Down from the people, the environment, and the greatness. Santa Cruz is known for the infamous beaches and the boardwalk. I have been going there since a child. Everything excites me from the rides, to the smell of the delicious foods being fried. For a long time, I didn’t know how this related to my character, but to my surprise it did. Everything that I experienced shaped me, and now I appreciate it more than ever. When I was younger my mother used to enroll me and my cousins into a summer program called Camp Cruz. We often went to many places such as museums, camp sites and different monuments. Now that I am older, I realized that this is one of the main reasons why I am so adventurous. I got exposed to things like this at a young age. I have experienced different walks of life, and different cultures. Everything that I have been through has made me this way. The neighborhood  that I grew up in is the mecca of what makes me who I am

The Poverty Business

Should the poor have more protection rights when it comes to their financial protection? This question has been asked for many years and many decades. The financial system of America has been known to keep the rich more rich, and the poor more poor. In this particular report called “ The poverty business”, it explains many examples of people who have been affected by the unfair laws and policies of the government financial system. The conversation of how the poor and rich are taxed comes up very often. It seems as if the poor are taxed more than the 1 percent of American who are rich. The lack of protection for the poor is very wrong. There is indeed a market to get rich off of the poor. But we as a society need to decide how we can make this better for everyone below the poverty level. People need to be serious about what they want. There should be no reason for people with low credit to be charged more than what they can afford. There should be more protection laws for low income people  . I also believe that people need to educate themselves on what is out there for them. People need to know the inside and out of their financial rights. Until that happens, people will continue to get ripped off from what they need and deserve.  Until people find out what is good for them, they will remain stuck in poverty.
